This week we are working on time. The 1st grade standard is to the 1/2 hour both identifying the hands on a clock as well as writing the time numerically. We will also touch on telling time to the minute. We are also reviewing the days of the week and months of the year. Yes, they are capitalized when they are written. Make sure your child can say them in order, Sunday - Saturday and January - December.
In reading we Ar discussing the author's purpose, why an author writes the story - to inform or entertain. We are also learning more about the "bossy" r in words with ar in them.
In Social Studies we are hearing stories and making projects that have to do with celebrations around the Globe. We have discussed Hanukkah and listened to some stories. We will also learn about other traditions culminating in Pajama Day on December 17 when we will watch Polar Express.
