We had an excellent beginning to 2011 and I expect that will continue through the rest of the school year. This week in Reading we will be taking our dibels assessment - assessing whether the students can segment a word (mop = the sounds m, short o, p), nonsense word fluency (consonant, vowel, consonant patterns that do not make real words) and oral reading fluency and retelling. We will also be working on identifying the main idea of a story and working on the sound -le (as in wiggle).
In Writing, we will work on our "friend" piece and write a letter to a friend.
In Science, we are working on solids and liquids. Last week we identified properties of solids and this week we will continue with that as well as adding in liquids.
In Math, we are sorting and collecting data through surveys. This week's Math homework can be accessed through this link :
http://nlvm.usu.edu/en/nav/frames_asid_270_g_1_t_3.html?open=instructions&from=category_g_1_t_3.html
Do 4 or 5 different sorts. Please be sure to sign the form in the homework that says the activity was completed.
Students are allowed to bring in a small "reading buddy" to read to during free reading time. Students may also bring in a water bottle (water only) that they may have at their desks.
Any questions. comments or concerns, please email or call me.
