I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. I am truly blessed to be able to work with your children and with the wonderful staff here at Wilbur and look forward to the challenges and rewards the new year will bring.
Speaking of those challenges! In January, I will be assessing your child's ability to count back from 20, count by 2's to 40 and by 5's and 10's to 100. I will also be checking their addition and subtraction skills.
In Reading, I will be assessing the 1-50 fry words and 51-75 fry words. Students will also be assessed on their fluency, how fast they can read a 1st grade level passage and retelling what happened in the passage. By the end of January, I will be looking for 40 words correct per minute with one error.
In Writing, my expectation is that students will be able to tell a story, writing 5 sentences on topic with legible handwriting, proper spacing and capitals and periods. By the end of February, students will also write a "persuasive letter".
It sounds daunting - I hope to also have some fun.
