Four more days. That is all your child has left in 1st grade. It is hard to believe that the year is over - I can still remember the 1st day of school! I hope everyone has a great summer full of fun activities, relaxation and reading! On Wednesday or Thursday your child will bring home some summer work pages, their math book (we didn't do every page so there is plenty of work to be done in it!) and the summer reading program. The only thing that should come back in August is the reading activities. On Wednesday and Thursday we will clean out desks and lockers - if your child is missing something, make sure they check lost and found.
Please check around your house. Two students have lost library books which may have inadvertently gone home with your child. Also please check to see if you have any of my books.
Tuesday is Field Day - please remember to put sunscreen on your child and send him or her in with a hat and a water bottle. It is supposed to be hot!! Your child must wear sneakers. Activities are form 12:30 to 2:30 - if you're in the neighborhood come on over and take a peek.
In order to keep the kids engaged, we will be learning about Outer Space on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We'll use the boxes that we're brought in to make some sort of space vehicles or planet landscapes or something.
On Thursday afternoon we will watch Charlotte's Web (I've been reading the novel to the class) and on Friday we will play board games as we celebrate the last day of school.
I've said it before but if does bear saying at least one more time. Your children have been an exceptional class. I really feel that I was very fortunate to have them this year. If I had a class like this every year, I don't think I would I ever leave teaching. I will cherish the memory of all 22 of these students. My expectation is that in May of 2026, I will have some tough choices to make as to how to get to 23 college graduations (Rory will graduate that year, too!) If there is ever anything I can do to help your child as they make their way in life, please do not hesitate to call on me. I will keep my eye on them as they progress though our school and will alway look forward to seeing them in the hall, at lunch time or on the bus court.
Thank you for a memorable year!
