Sorry this is a bit late (although I don't know how many people actually read this!) Report cards will be mailed out at the end of the week so you will know your child's grades when we have our conference next week. If you did not return your conference form, please do so ASAP.... time slots are filling up fast.
This week we have our field trip to Hagley Museum. (Don't be late to school or you'll miss the bus - sorry no refunds!) Please make sure your student wears appropriate clothes and footwear, we will be doing a bit of walking and will be outside for part of the program. We will be eating lunch there so please, if you did not order lunch from the cafeteria, pack your child a nutritious, delicious lunch in a disposable bag - no sodas please, they get shaken up on our bus ride.
This week we are working on short u as in bug, nouns, and noting details in stories. In writing, we are still working on capitals, periods and spacing. Improper use of these "conventions" is the number one reason keeping many students from earning an MP in writing. In Social Studies, we are studying how things change over time (history) and our field trip ties in with this topic. In Math, we are still studying geometry, today we learned about quadrilaterals - how do you tell if a shape is a quadrilateral, a triangle or some other shape? (Do YOU know?)
I've added some pictures of the class reading our Weekly Reader magazine. I hope the students have brought them home to share instead of leaving them wrinkled at the bottom of their backpacks.
Have a great week,
Dave Ostheimer
