Friday was the end of our 2nd Marking Period, we have 6 all together. Students have been assessed on their ability to count and write their numbers to 20 and beyond, to add and subtract numbers from 1 to 20 and to know when to do which, to show how they get an answer in Math using pictures, numbers and/or words and to write a correct number sentence using + - and = appropriately. They have been asked to identify letter sounds including short vowel sounds, read and use high frequency words and to read and comprehend 1st grade appropriate text. Students have also been assessed on their ability to write using appropriate capital letters, punctuation, legible handwriting and spacing as well as staying on topic in response to a writing prompt. In Social Studies they were assessed on their knowledge of school rules and personnel and the duties and responsibilities of the President. In Science, they showed their knowledge of Weather as it relates to our everyday life.
Report Cards will be mailed home soon. An EP or MP means that your child is exceeding or meeting the standards set by the State of Delaware for 1st Grade. An NP means that your child is approaching the standards but is not quite at a level of mastery. A BP means that your child, at this moment, is having great difficulty attaining the mastery of the subject as needed to meet standards. A grade is not necessarily a reflection of the effort that your child has put in to the subject. If necessary, effort will be addressed in the comment section of the report card. If you have questions about your child's report card, please call or email to schedule a conference, otherwise, conferences will be held after the 3rd Marking Period.
Next Tuesday, 11/23, is Storybook Character Day. Your child can wear a costume that has something to do with a storybook character - basically if the character is in a book, it counts!
There are new pictures under "more" from when we had our visit from author Matt Hall.
