I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
This week, in Reading, we will be learning about the "sh" digraph at both the beginning of a word (ship) and the end (dish). In reading comprehension, we will be learning about setting - the time and location where a story takes place. We will also continue to work on retelling stories with a beginning, middle and end.
In Math, we will be working on addition problems, especially on finding missing addends for example, 1+ ? = 10.
This will lead to more work worth combinations of numbers, an introduction to subtraction and, the ever popular, word problems.
In Social Studies, our Junior Achievement volunteer will be in twice this week plus we will continue to work on how things change over time. We will soon be learning about celebrations around the world. If you have a family or cultural tradition that you would like to share, please let me know!
Some upcoming dates:
November 29 - Picture make-up day. (Details were sent home before the break.)
December 2 - Dr. Linn (our superintendent) comes to visit the 1st grade classes.
December 7 - Our class' time in the Holiday Shop (during library)
December 21 - Polar Express - Pajama Day (Your child may wear pajamas and bring a stuffed animal but regular shoes must be worn)
December 22 - January 2 - No School
Yes, that's right, only 18 more days of school in 2011!
Have a great week!
