This week we welcome to our classroom Ms. Ruiz and Ms. Coburn, two University of Delaware students who are studying to become teachers. This week in Reading we will be working on long i with silent e, i_e. We will also be working on the -ed -ing endings. Our reading comprehension strategy we will work on is problems and solutions.
In Writing, we will be working on word choices, how to make our writing more interesting.
In Math we are working on making 10. Did you practice with the flash cards I sent home? By the end of 1st grade all students should be fluent in their addition facts. In school we go on FasttMath on the computer and we play math games to help with our fluency but 5 minutes a night on math facts can really help your child be automatic. When they are automatic with their facts, 2nd grade Math concepts will come much easier.
In Social Studies we will be working on Map skills.
Thursday is Wildcat World Cruise day. If your child has some clothing from another country please have them wear it to spice up our classroom. In my classroom we will be learning about Nepal, which I was fortunate enough to visit about 15 years ago and in Ms. Aldas' classroom, Guatemala and Ms. Breeding's, Australia.
Friday, there is no school for teacher professional development.
Thanks!
