What a great week we had last week and we have some excitement this week, as well. Unfortunately, we did have 3 students leave to go to the new classroom. Mrs Pinder said that everyone is adjusting well and I'm sure that they will enjoy their new room. The good news is that we get to see our old friends every day at special!
Last week we had our trip to Hagley Museum and there are some photos from the group I was with. If the chaperones for the other group can send me some pictures, I will add those, as well.
This week we have some more excitement. My friend Matt Hall will visit the classroom on Tuesday. Matt is a musician, cartoonist and, most important for us, a children's book author who live in Flagstaff Arizona, right on the doorstep of the Grand Canyon!! He will spend about an hour with us, reading from his book Phoebe and Chubb, talking about the writing process and helping us create our own story. There may even be some time for a sing-a-long! Thursday we have no school in observance of Veteran's Day and Friday is the last day of the 2nd Marking Period. We are 1/3 of the way through our school year.
In Math we will continue with subtraction and addition problems and discuss how we can tell them apart. In Reading we will learn about "r" controlled vowels in words with "or" and read one of my favorite stories, Land of Ice. In Writing we will continue our practice with capitals, periods and spacing and write a paragraph to a prompt that will be specifically graded for those skills. In Social Studies we will talk more about our system of government and the duties and responsibilities of the President.

Thanks,
