It is hard to believe but our 1st Marking Period is over. Report cards will be mailed out on Friday and we can go over what they mean for your child at our conference next week. Remember, your students are not being assessed on their effort but on how they measure up to the state wide standards we have for 1st grade. Make sure you stay positive about their grades
In Reading, we learned our short a, short i and short o sounds, learned about retelling a story by describing the beginning, middle and end, learned who the characters in stories are plus added some new high frequency words to our vocabulary. In Writing we went over the mechanics of good writing, capitals, periods, and spacing. In Math we learned about more and less, shapes, addition, tens and ones and coins. In Science we are still learning about the weather and in Social Studies we learned about School Rules and a bit about community.
This week in Math, we continue adding different combinations of 1 digit numbers together to make up to 10 and we continue working with story problems. In Reading, we will work with the -all sound, categorize and classify things, continue with beginning, middle and end retelling and describing characters. In Writing, we will write describing places. In Science we will finish up Weather either Thursday or next Monday.
Did you send back your conference form? If not, please send it back this Monday! Conferences are next Tuesday through Thursday (October 12-14) and we have early dismissal Tuesday through Friday!
Another reminder, no school this Friday as students have off for teacher professional development.
Have a great week!
