We made it through our first five day week! The students have been doing a very nice job getting used to the routine of 1st grade. This week we will be learning about short i as in pig, continuing on retelling a story and reading fluency, introducing contractions and working on sentences. In Math, we will be working on combining numbers and working on identifying parts of story problems. We also will be working on number words (one, two, three etc.). In Science, we will continue using thermometers and discussing how a thermometer looks when it is hot, warm, cool and cold.
The first grade team had some sad news this week as Mr. Gibson was moved back to Kindergarten to help alleviate the high number of students that were in each class. The silver lining is that we have two new students in our class and I am sure that everyone will make them feel welcome.
Monday is Open House and I hope that you can attend. We only have a half an hour to go over everything so, please, don't be late! I will start my presentation at 6:30. Unfortunately, if you have another child in Kindergarten or 2nd grade, we meet at the same time. 3rd - 5th grade meet at 7:15. You can park in either the front lot or around in the back, it will be crowded! I will not be able to answer specific questions about your child but will gladly answer any general questions that you may have. Before you come in the classroom, please make sure that you sign in by the classroom door.
Finally, we will be having a substitute on Friday of this week and Monday and Tuesday of next week. Classroom and homework expectations will stay the same.
See you Monday night!
