I hope all you moms had a great day!!
This week in Math we are working on counting and adding by 2's, 4's, 5's and 10's - if there are 4 dogs, how many legs are there? 16 - 8 2's or 4 4's.
In Reading we are continuing our work on retelling stories. It is important that your child can identify characters and setting and also retell the beginning, middle and end of stories. Identification of problems and solutions is also an important skill that will be added to in 2nd grade.
In Writing students will be working on a creative piece. Can they use capitals, punctuation and spacing correctly? Can they spell words correctly or at least use the letter patterns that we have learned? Can they tell a coherent story of 5+ sentences with a beginning, middle and an end?
In Science, we will continue our observations of our plants, terrariums and aquariums. We will also continue our work on the food chain and, if time allows, we will play a food chain game of tag.
On Tuesday there is a PTA fundraiser at Chick - Fil - A. I will be there at some point with maybe a child or two, I hope you can make it!
On Monday, the Colonial School District will be having a technology summit at William Penn High School. (http://www.colonial.k12.de.us/ scroll down a bit on this link to see the info.) They will show off some of the new initiatives that the district will be starting next year. Unfortunately I have a class that evening and will be unable to make it but some of the initiatives include using social media( Facebook and Twitter), use of Smartphones in the classroom and some things that I am already doing (weblogs and Smartboard lessons.) The Colonial School District is in the forefront of this technological revolution, neither my children's schools nor my wife's school district are as invested in technology as our district is!
Have a great week and I hope to see you on Tuesday!
