On Monday evening at 6:30 we have our Open House. I look forward to meeting everyone and letting you know what goes on in our classroom. This is parents only but, if you can't make arrangements for your kids, there will be an activity in the MPR at the school.
This week in Language Arts we will be learning the first 20 of our Most Common Words. You will get flash cards of these words, please practice them with your child reading and, once that is mastered, spelling them. We will also be learning about short e as in hen.
Our comprehension skill is identifying the Main Idea and Key Details. We will also continue working on Character Traits and we will be using nonfiction selections and the Kevin Henkes book Wemberly Worried.
In writing we will practice letter formation and writing a complete sentence.
In Math, we will be working on counting objects correctly to 20 and comparing numbers and deciding how two numbers compare to each other. Is one greater than the other, lesser than or equal to it?
In Science, we will take the State of Delaware pre-assessment finding out what the students already know.
In Social Studies, we will be discussing members of our community including members of our school community and what their jobs are.

Starting this week your child will have homework. Students will get it on Monday and it will be due back on that Friday.
I hope to see you all at our Open House (set your DVR's to catch the start of the Eagles game as our 1st grade time ends right after kickoff).
