This week in Reading we will be working more on identifying details in a text and working on character traits both external and internal. Short i is our phonics skill and you can access a shot i booklet by going on the Harcourt Storytown site, signing in according to the instructions, choosing my library and then decodable book lesson 3.
In Writing we cut and colored a "scarecrow" and we will be writing sentences that describe him.
In Math we are finishing up on combinations of numbers and we had an interesting conversation on whether 5=2+3 or not. The majority of students said, "No", that 2+3=5 but not the other way around. I asked if 1+4=2+3 and again they answered "No". This shows I have some work to do so students understand this 'commutative property of addition".
We finally got some different weather today so we put out our rain gauges. Tomorrow we will see how much it rains today. We also did an experiment to see which kind of fabric works best to keep us dry. So far, nylon is the winner but tomorrow morning we will come in to see if any water leaked through the fabric.
Have a great week!
