Tuesday is Storybook Character Day..... your child may dress up in any costume that refers to a character in a book (yes, Spiderman shows up in books as do Ninjas). I've spent the last two days working on my costume and, though 3 rolls of duct tape later it is not done, I'm pretty excited about it. Unfortunately, my character is one that students will probably not encounter in literature until 3rd or 4th grade but they may have seen him in a movie. Parents, grandparents, etc are invited to come in to the classroom starting at 9:30. We will either be splitting up into groups to listen to a fairy tale or working on a Thanksgiving project, or both.
Last Friday, we had our Unit 3 assessment in Math, our Theme 3 assessment in Reading and illustrated our "Submarine" stories which are now hanging in our hallway. When you come on Tuesday make sure to read the stories and admire the art work, we have some very talented students in our classroom!
Monday we will take our Unit 1, 2 and 3 common assessment in Math and finish it Tuesday morning, if necessary.
You can expect grades for all 3 assessments as well as the writing project in your child's folder after the Thanksgiving holiday.
On this Thanksgiving holiday it is only proper that I reflect on what I am thankful for. I am thankful to work in a school with such a caring environment fostered by our wonderful principal, Mrs. Howell, to work with dedicated reading teachers and amazing specialists and to work with a truly collaborative 1st grade team. Most of all, I am truly blessed and inspired to work with such a great group of children. Thank you for your support!
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving (and remember no school Wednesday November 24),
